One year after the launch of the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Platform for Green Industry Cooperation, significant progress has been achieved in the Green Industry Development Cooperation Zone and the Green Industry Cooperation Promotion Center in Jinghai district, Tianjin.
The cooperation zone, located in the Ziya Economic Development Area, has shifted from traditional scrap recycling to high-value utilization of retired power batteries, waste photovoltaic equipment, and wind turbine blades.
Over the past year, it signed agreements on 26 projects, added 153 business entities, and attracted over 5 billion yuan ($0.74 billion) in investment. A digital service platform, launched six months ago, has facilitated over 10 billion yuan in transactions and attracted 26 industry leaders.
The zone has also signed memoranda with industrial parks in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Pakistan, expanding its SCO network.
Meanwhile, the promotion center launched an information website in Chinese, Russian, and English in June, providing infomation on 541 green technologies, 33 policies, 85 enterprises, and 65 experts. It has produced 28 key research reports on green industries in five SCO countries.
Nankai University established a green industry research center and enrolled its first doctoral students, while Tianjin Polytechnic University set up a new major in waste textile recycling and will welcome its first overseas students this September.
The center plans to continue facilitating research, exchanges, and information sharing to support practical project cooperation among SCO members.
