Tianjin's Jinghai district has built the National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park. The 663.47 square kilometer park, begun in 2024, covers 663.47 square kilometers and cost 19.4 billion yuan ($267.08 million).
The park focuses on two main industries, sheep breeding and facility vegetables, and has a core area including nine townships in Jinghai.
The first phase of the project has been put into operation.
The park relies on core enterprises with a focus on the principle of "production + processing + technology + branding" for layout. It includes multiple "green, high-quality, high-end, efficient" boutique agricultural bases such as the Comprehensive Management Service Center, the Agricultural Education, Culture, and Tourism Integration Development Belt, the Intelligent Agriculture Innovation Leading Zone, the Sheep Breeding Technology Innovation Leading Zone, the "Vegetable Basket" Product Trade and Logistics Zone, and the Green Food Processing Zone. These initiatives are aimed at promoting the efficient operation of the entire industry chain.
The park can establish a green integrated dual-cycle system of "promoting planting through breeding", utilizing the waste generated during sheep breeding, such as manure and bedding materials (organic matter content in sheep manure is 24 percent - 27 percent). Through a series of modern centralized processing methods such as biological fermentation and decomposition, these wastes are transformed into high-quality organic fertilizers, which are then used for scientific management and fertilization of facility vegetables.
The park also blends the residues and leaves generated during the harvesting and processing of facility vegetables with bran, to generate solid mixed bacterial fermentation. This process transforms the mixture into high-quality protein feed for sheep breeding, thus realizing a combined planting and breeding model of "vegetables-feed-fertilizer".
Once the park is completed, it will establish a premium "vegetable basket" and "central kitchen" for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, effectively reinforcing the daily supply and emergency guarantee capabilities of meat sheep breeding sources and green vegetables.
